Buyer Guide

Buying valuable items requires careful evaluation, informed decision-making, and secure transaction practices. This Buyer Guide explains how to assess an item and its seller, understand the terms of sale, arrange payment safely, and organize delivery through the KOTLYARS international marketplace.

The KOTLYARS platform connects buyers and sellers but encourages every buyer to perform appropriate due diligence before purchasing any valuable item or participating in an auction.

Whether purchasing at a fixed price or bidding in an auction, buyers should carefully review all available information, communicate clearly with the seller, and retain relevant records throughout the transaction.

  1. Create and Protect Your Account. Provide accurate contact information and use a strong, unique password. Never share your login credentials, authentication codes, or verification information with another person. For certain categories or high-value transactions, KOTLYARS may request identity verification documents.
  2. Review the Listing Carefully. Before deciding to buy, carefully examine the complete item listing, including the description, dimensions, weight, materials, condition, photographs, visible defects, previous repairs or alterations, pricing, auction conditions, seller information, delivery options, return policy, certificates, and expert reports where available.
  3. Check Authenticity and Provenance. For gemstones, jewellery, precious metals, works of art, collectibles, and other valuable items, request documentation supporting authenticity, provenance, ownership, grading, or certification. Where appropriate, obtain advice from an independent gemmologist, appraiser, or qualified specialist. A listing on KOTLYARS does not itself guarantee authenticity or market value.
  4. Clarify the Terms with the Seller. Ask all important questions before committing to purchase and retain written correspondence. Confirm the total purchase price, included accessories, payment method, delivery arrangements, insurance, taxes, customs responsibilities, and applicable return conditions. Do not proceed if the seller refuses reasonable questions, pressures you into immediate payment, or proposes terms inconsistent with the listing.
  5. Buying at a Fixed Price. When purchasing at a fixed price, ensure both parties clearly agree on the exact item being sold, the total amount payable, currency, payment recipient, transfer method, delivery costs, insurance arrangements, and return policy before making payment.
  6. Taking Part in an Auction. Before placing a bid, carefully review the lot description, auction closing time, bid increments, reserve price, and any special auction conditions. A bid may create a legally binding obligation to purchase the item. Bid only after reviewing all available information and only within the maximum amount you are prepared to pay. Winning bidders should promptly agree payment, insurance, and delivery arrangements with the seller.
  7. Pay Safely. KOTLYARS does not currently receive, process, or hold user payments. Payments are made directly between buyer and seller under mutually agreed terms. Use traceable payment methods, verify recipient details carefully, and retain proof of payment. Do not transfer funds if payment instructions change unexpectedly or appear suspicious.
  8. Arrange Delivery and Insurance. For valuable items, use a professional shipping service that provides tracking, appropriate packaging, and insurance covering the item's full value. Agree in advance which party is responsible for shipping costs, insurance, customs duties, taxes, and any import-related charges. Buyers are responsible for checking import restrictions and legal requirements in the destination country.
  9. Inspect the Item on Arrival. Keep all packaging materials and accompanying documentation. Record the unboxing where appropriate and inspect the item immediately upon receipt. Compare the item with the listing description, photographs, serial numbers, certificates, and other documentation. If the item appears damaged, materially different, or potentially counterfeit, notify both the seller and KOTLYARS without delay. Do not repair, modify, or alter the item while the matter is under review.
  10. Report Problems. If you encounter suspicious activity, fraud, counterfeit goods, or a dispute, preserve the listing, communications, payment records, delivery documentation, and photographs. Contact KOTLYARS through the Contact page. The platform may investigate reported conduct and take appropriate action regarding user accounts or listings. KOTLYARS does not replace courts, payment providers, insurers, or law-enforcement authorities.
Careful due diligence before purchasing significantly reduces risk. Independent verification is strongly recommended for gemstones, jewellery, works of art, luxury goods, collectibles, and other high-value items.

Buyer Responsibility. Every buyer is solely responsible for evaluating the item, the seller, and the transaction terms, verifying applicable taxes, customs duties, import requirements, and determining whether to proceed with a purchase. Independent professional advice should be obtained whenever appropriate.
